“You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice.” – Bob Marley
PILLAR: Resilience
FOCUS: Self-awareness
Reflection
It’s easy to recognize our obvious strengths—the ones that earn praise, feel comfortable, or come naturally. But there’s another kind, hidden deep in the shadows, that only steps forward when the light is dim. These are the abilities you might never have discovered if life hadn’t pushed you into unfamiliar or difficult places.
I think about moments when I was sure I couldn’t handle something—times I felt cornered, drained, or completely out of my depth. In those moments, I didn’t feel powerful. I felt tired. I felt uncertain. And yet, looking back, those were the times I made choices that changed everything for the better. The way I spoke up when it was uncomfortable. The way I stayed present for someone else even when I was hurting. The way I adapted when plans fell apart. None of it felt graceful in the moment, but grace was still there.
Sometimes we dismiss these strengths because they don’t look shiny or perfect. They’re not always the kind you can put on a résumé. But they’re the ones that anchor you in the storms. They show you that even when you don’t feel “ready,” you can still rise. Today, I want you to revisit one of those moments for yourself. Think about the qualities you used—patience, courage, resourcefulness—that might not have been part of your self-image before. Let yourself be surprised. Let yourself be proud.

Some of your greatest strengths don’t live in the spotlight—they grow quietly in the shadows, waiting for the moment you need them most.
