“The body always leads us home… if we can simply learn to listen.” — Brené Brown
PILLAR: Reflection
FOCUS: Reconnecting with your physical self
Reflection
When life speeds up, we start to disappear from ourselves. Our minds race forward or spiral backward, and our bodies — loyal, quiet, patient — wait for us to come back.
Sometimes we don’t realize how far we’ve drifted until something small reminds us. A skipped meal. A sore neck. That vague, restless ache that shows up when we’ve been ignoring ourselves too long. I had one of those moments this week — pacing around, frustrated for no clear reason. Everything felt too loud and too tight. I was trying to think my way through it, but it wasn’t a mental problem. It was physical. I’d left my body behind.
So I sat down, closed my eyes, and placed my hand on my chest. Just breathed. Nothing fancy. No need to fix or figure anything out. Just acknowledgment: I’m still here.
That five seconds of presence felt like a reunion. Not dramatic or perfect — just enough to remember I’m more than my thoughts. I’m a person with skin and breath and needs.
Coming back to your body doesn’t have to mean intense workouts or strict regimens. It can be as simple as drinking a glass of water slowly. Stretching in a doorway. Lying still for one full minute. These moments of kindness add up. They remind your nervous system that you’re listening again.
You don’t need to wait for burnout to begin again. Start with one quiet act of return.
